Tyndall/Suncorp Investment Management has further strengthened its fixed income team with the appointment of Mr John Sorrell to the newly-created role of Head of Credit.
Mr Sorrell, who has over 21 years financial services experience, joins Tyndall/Suncorp from BT Financial Group, where he was Head of Credit for two years. Prior to this, he spent six years with Merrill Lynch Investment Management as Director – Credit and Structured Products, and he has also worked with Macquarie Investment Management and Credit Suisse First Boston. Mr Sorrell has a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of Sydney and also has a diploma in Computer Science.
Mr Roger Bridges, head of fixed income, says that Mr Sorrell’s particular experience and skill set will be valuable to the business in its growth plans.
“John’s mathematical background gives him technical problem-solving and analytical skills, and, having worked through several credit cycles, he has a valuable and in-depth understanding of complex credit structures and how they behave in different market environments.
“His background includes nine years as a ‘sell-side’ credit research analyst and almost ten year on the ‘buy’ side, giving him insight into both sides of the business.
“In light of the challenges raised in fixed income by the current credit squeeze and liquidity issues, demand for executives with John’s ability and experience is very high, and he will make a valuable contribution to the Tyndall/Suncorp team,” Mr Bridges said.
Last week, Tyndall/Suncorp announced the expansion of the fixed income team with the appointments of Mr Darren Langer as head of portfolio management and Ms Ileria Chan as senior credit analyst.
